After Hours Answering Service

It's 7:40pm and their ceiling is leaking.

Every call answered after you close — qualified, sorted, and either on your phone in seconds or waiting for you in the morning.

The basics

What is an after-hours answering service?

An after-hours answering service picks up the calls that come in when you're closed. The modern version isn't a call centre reading a script off a card — it answers instantly at any hour, finds out what the job is, books it to your calendar, and escalates a genuine emergency to a person.

A couple of platforms we specialize in

We are flexible and like to use already existing infrastructure if possible!

What it does

It answers, then it decides

Picking up is the easy part. The part that matters is what happens in the next thirty seconds — whether the call is an emergency or a price shopper, whether it's in your area, whether it's work you take, and whether anyone needs waking up about it.

Answers every call after hours, weekends, and holidays.

Sorts an emergency from a price shopper, escalates one.

Books to your calendar, or hands off with the details.

How working together actually goes

Four steps, no mystery

The Blueprint

Ninety minutes with your systems open. We find what's leaking, and you leave with a written plan, a build order, and a fixed price. Free for the first five.

The build

We build it in the tools you already pay for, in your accounts, under your name. You approve every message before a single one goes out to a customer.

Switch-on

It goes live in stages, not all at once. We watch the first week closely, fix what the real world breaks, and tune the timing against real replies.

We watch it

Nothing we build is left running unwatched. Skip monitors it and alerts us, not you — you shouldn't hear your system is down from an angry customer.

The honest limits

You don't want to be on call all night

That's what most after-hours setups quietly turn into — a phone that never stops being your problem, and a system you end up resenting. Fair. So the rules are yours. Emergency at 2am reaches a human. Price shopper on a Sunday doesn't. Out of your area gets told politely.

You decide what wakes you up

We write the escalation rules with you, in your words, and change them when you learn something. No heat in January is not the same call as a gutter estimate.

The ones that don't reach you are still kept

Nothing gets dropped because it wasn't urgent. Every non-emergency call is captured, qualified, and sitting in one place first thing in the morning.

Automation isn't here to remove the personal touch.

It's here to make it possible. The business that remembers you is usually just the one with a system behind it.

What changes

The 7:40pm call becomes a job on Monday

Nothing about your day changes. What changes is what happens in the eleven hours you're not at the phone — a window that, for most contractors, holds more inbound calls than they'd guess and almost none of the answers.

  • The emergency at 7:40pm becomes your job instead of a competitor's.

  • Your evenings stop being interrupted by questions that could wait.

  • You find out how much work was arriving after you closed.

After-hours answering FAQs

The questions contractors ask before they hand over their evening calls. If yours isn't here, ask it — we answer plainly.

How does it know what counts as an emergency?

You tell it. We write the rules with you — no heat, no water, active leak, gas smell — and everything outside that list waits. The rules are yours to change the first time one of them is wrong.

Does it use my existing phone number?

Yes. We forward your current number, so nothing changes on your trucks, your cards, or your Google listing. Your line rings first — this only picks up when nobody does.

What does it actually cost me per call?

The tool bills per call or per minute depending on which one we use, usually well under a dollar. That goes on your card, at cost, never marked up. We never make money on your call volume.

What does this cost to set up and run?

The Blueprint is free for the first five businesses, then $500 credited to the build. The build gets quoted after we've seen inside your system — anyone quoting before that is guessing. Then a monthly fee.

What happens when something breaks?

Skip watches everything we build and alerts us, not you. Automations do break — passwords change, APIs update. The difference is who finds out first. You shouldn't hear it from an angry customer.
